Meditation

Meditation is the first change I made that allowed all other changes to happen afterward. I started small and wasn’t consistent at all for about 3 years. Once I got consistent the dividends were huge in all aspects of my life.


Thich Nhat Hanh is the person I looked up to most in regards to being mindful and seeing the rewards of meditation. Below is a video of Oprah interviewing him. It should give you a good sense of him.

Below is a basic guided meditation by Andy Puddicombe from Headspace. Headspace has a meditation app that can help you too.

In July of 2016 I got a fitness tracker watch and started hiking. That literally changed my life. I hiked a lot and both the physical activity and being outdoors made a huge impact on my life, including my waistline. There are a thousand ways to exercise and doing any amount at all is a great thing. Below is a video from Mike Goncalves who helped me stay on track and inspired me to push myself even more.

How you interpret the world and everything that happens in it literally shapes your quality of life. Brian Johnson over at optimize.me has been an incredible teacher in this realm. He has videos on choosing your life’s work, handling money, staying in shape, giving your mind a rest, getting enough sleep, etc. He has videos on everything related to optimizing your life and he is just so incredibly positive.

Positive Thinking

Perhaps more than anything else since meditation, this philosophy has massively changed my life.When you force yourself to do the things you don’t want to do, to be uncomfortable when you want to be comfortable, to push forward when you want to quit, the entire world changes. Soon small discomforts mean nothing to you. Every difficult or uncomfortable situation is a chance for you to grow stronger.


David Goggins at davidgoggins.com taught me this (his example is even more powerful than his words).
